100+ Years of Empowerment

For over 100 years, Miss America has been shaping the future, breaking barriers, and empowering women to shatter glass ceilings. What began in 1921 as a “bathing beauty review” was an act of rebellion during a time when women weren’t permitted to wear swimsuits in public, challenging societal norms and pushing boundaries. As time passed, Miss America evolved into a dynamic service organization with a steadfast commitment to community impact. In 1945, it transformed the landscape by awarding scholarships instead of cash prizes, becoming one of the first organizations in the U.S. to provide college tuition scholarships to women. In the 1980s, the program solidified its legacy by making community service a foundational pillar, raising millions of dollars and driving awareness for causes that continue to make a difference across the nation.

Evolving Opportunity

The Miss America opportunity continues to evolve, expanding its impact to better serve the ambitious women within the program and the communities they represent. Throughout the competition and interviews, delegates engage directly with judges, highlight their community service initiatives, and demonstrate why they are uniquely prepared for the extraordinary, 365-day experience of serving as Miss America.

This new era of Miss America features official partnerships with leading organizations such as the American Heart Association, Best Buddies International, the Gold Star Families Foundation, and the USO, fostering philanthropic engagement and leadership development. Through initiatives like Miss America’s Little Sisters Program, we continue to build on a century-long legacy—empowering thousands of women across America to pursue their goals, serve their communities, and create lasting impact.

Preparing for the Stage —

Behind the scenes, the Miss America experience is rooted in service, leadership, and community engagement. Delegates dedicate their time to advancing charitable causes, advocating for their chosen initiatives, and representing their communities with passion and purpose. Through this journey, they become part of a powerful sisterhood of former titleholders—women who are now leaders, mentors, and changemakers across every industry. The Miss America experience cultivates lifelong friendships, personal growth, and a lasting commitment to making a difference.
