Miss America Celebrates 90 Years of Miss Virginia

[Roanoke, VA] June 27, 2025 – Miss America Abbie Stockard recently joined the Miss Virginia Organization in Roanoke to celebrate a landmark occasion: the 90th anniversary of the Miss Virginia competition. This milestone brought together an inspiring community of former brand ambassadors, volunteers, supporters, and delegates to honor the program’s rich legacy while
looking ahead to its continued mission of empowering Virginia’s young women.

Throughout the week, Abbie participated in a variety of events, including the preliminary competition, where she encouraged and inspired the talented candidates vying for the state crown.

A highlight of the celebration was the beloved Miss Virginia Style Show and Luncheon, where Abbie served as keynote speaker. This signature event blended style and service, raising critical funds for both Miss Virginia scholarships and the American Heart Association’s Go Red for
Women initiative, which promotes heart health education and advocacy. Abbie’s remarks resonated deeply with attendees of all ages, adding meaningful perspective to the week’s festivities.

“Abbie provided an extra touch of sparkle and pizzazz to our 90th Anniversary Miss Virginia Celebration,” said Mark Schreier, Co-Executive Director of the Miss Virginia Opportunity.
“Abbie is an elegant, classy young lady—and so kind and authentic, too. We learned new things from her keynote speech during our Go Red for Women Style Show / Luncheon and our Little Sisters – Virginia’s Stars – especially loved having Abbie join our Miss Virginia and Miss Virginia’s Teen during their crowning ceremony. Abbie and our titleholders made each of our 80 little ladies feel valued and special. Miss and Teen contestants valued Abbie’s encouraging words of wisdom, too. We’re honored and blessed that she was able to join us and help make this special year even more memorable.”

Miss Virginia holds a proud and historic place within the Miss America legacy, having produced four national titleholders: Kylene Barker (1979), Nicole Johnson (1999), Caressa Cameron (2010), and Camille Schrier (2020). Their accomplishments—along with those of countless
delegates shaped by the Miss Virginia experience—underscore the enduring impact of the program.

More than just a celebration, the 90th anniversary served as a powerful tribute to nearly a century of empowering women across the Commonwealth. With meaningful moments shared and new memories made, Miss Virginia’s legacy remains vibrant and deeply aligned with the values at the heart of the Miss America Opportunity.
